We offer Botox® and dermal filler at our Sheffield skincare clinic - but what's the difference?

Anti-wrinkle injections such as Botulinum Toxin® (Botox) are a non-surgical cosmetic procedure, which help to reduce and prevent unwanted facial wrinkles. This is achieved by administering a very small dose of muscle relaxant protein via a fine needle just under the skin and commonly used to target forehead and frown lines, crow’s feet, gummy smile and bunny lines, as well as for jawline slimming.

When Botox® is injected, it blocks the signals from the nerve endings to the muscle, therefore reducing or stopping contraction. This temporary relaxation method means that the skin no longer creases, making lines fade / disappear.

Once Botox® is injected, it remains in the body for around 48 hours and during this time, targets the receptors of any muscles that have been injected. These receptors (which receive messages from the brain telling the muscle to move gradually) grow back over a period of several months and when relaxed, the skin heals and lines soften.

Performed by our Clinical Director, tweakments are subtle and a natural improvement made, however the results are not immediate and it usually takes 2 to 5 days until you start to notice the effect(s) - which are at their best post 2 weeks. Movement usually starts to reappear after approximately 8 weeks and you can book a repeat treatment from week 12.

Dermal fillers (B&A pictured above) are very different to Botox®, as they are made from a product called hyaluronic acid - a colourless gel injected into areas of volume loss. As we age, our natural collagen and elastin levels decrease, stores of hyaluronic acid reduce and reabsorption of bone leaves the skin appearing to skin and less well supported. Folds and wrinkles also begin to develop and people notice that they look more tired although well rested.

By adding small amounts of carefully placed dermal filler to certain points, this can help to lift and tighten the skin and smooth targeted folds, which can make a big difference to the face’s appearance, promoting a fresher appearance.

Depending on the product(s) used, treatment can last from 18 - 24 months, however naturally, towards the end of this period, the effects begin to gradually soften and a review is recommended at 12 months to perform a top up if needed.

Often a combination of both Botox® and dermal filler can offer optimum results and here at Eterno Aesthetics, we aim to naturally enhance your features, not completley and drastically change the way you look.

Some people are put off by injectable treatments due to the undesirable effects seen on friends or social media, such as frozen faces and pillowy cheeks, which are just some of the worries our clients have expressed.

However you can rest-assured that with Eterno Aesthetics, a thorough pre-procedure consultation will be carried out to ascertain your goals + the look you want to achieve, as we offer several injectable products, which include Juvéderm® and Botox® and can help you to decide which one, or a combination, is right for your skin type and concerns.
