Close up of a woman’s face before acne treatment

When it comes to finding an effective adult acne treatment, you have likely tried 'every' lotion, potion, and serum out there. But it also helps to get to the root of the problem. In other words, to really treat your concerns, you need to understand what causes it in the first place.

Whether you have been dealing with acne on your face, back or elsewhere on the body, it can be debilitating to live with. But you don’t have to suffer! There are an array of medical-grade skin treatments that have been scientifically proven to reduce the appearance of acne and to help manage the symptoms.

Here are just some of our recommended adult acne treatment strategies …

Topical Treatments with Acne-Fighting Ingredients

While there are a wide range of over-the-counter acne products available, there are very few that can actually help with your condition. The first and most important thing to do when tackling acne is to make sure that you have an arsenal of products with science-backed ingredients at your disposal.

Remember that not every product or ingredient is going to work for everyone, and many of these products do need to be used consistently for a few weeks before there’s noticeable changes in your skin. So take it slow—but be persistent.

The ZO Skin Health products we stock can only be purchased from a licensed clinic and are highly effective treatments formulated to treat acne-prone skin and prevent future breakouts.

They each feature essential ingredients that slow sebum production and control excess oil, while exfoliating dead skin cells to help tighten pores and improve skin texture.

Determine the perfect daily routine to treat your acne-prone skin and combine facial cleansers, exfoliators, and more to minimise future breakouts, reducing the appearance of blackheads, whiteheads, pimples, and other blemishes.

Chemical Peels and Exfoliators

Exfoliation is one of the most important things you can do on a regular basis to combat acne concerns both in terms of prevention and treatment.

Whether you choose to use a chemical or physical exfoliant, know that this step will help prevent breakouts by keeping your pores clear and removing any blockages you currently have.

If your dermis can handle it, a chemical peel may be an option if you are prone to acne breakouts. Skin peels are not only effective for treating acne, but also offers many other benefits, such as the ability to reduce certain scarring, or reverse some signs of ageing.

That said, be careful not to exfoliate too often, which can result in irritated, flaky, dry skin. Between 1 and 3 times each week is plenty for most people, but your skin may be able to tolerate more or less than that depending on your individual skin type and concerns.

Treatments That Fight Inflammation

As we mentioned, pimples form when a pore gets clogged with dirt, oil, and dead skin cells. If bacteria is also present, the pimple might get inflamed, meaning it becomes red, swollen, and painful.

Not all pimples are inflamed, but those that are tend to be especially unpleasant to deal with. So finding ways to calm them down while treating the root cause of the problem is essential.

Our HydraFacial acne-prevention treatment combines the same six stages as our HydraFacial Platinum treatment, but it also includes a Glysal peel, which helps to improve the appearance of acne and acne scarring, and regulate oil levels caused by excess sebum. The strength of the peel will be tailored to your skin.

Dermalux® Tri-Wave Light Therapy

For a more enhanced and accelerated outcome, the advanced Dermalux Tri-Wave LED Therapy is the jewel in our acne treatment crown. It combines different wavelengths simultaneously and each session is tailored specifically to target your specific skin concerns and situation.

Blue Light Therapy at 415nm is predominantly used for its anti-bacterial properties, and is effective in the treatment of mild to moderate acne, as well as stabilising oil glands, easing inflammation and reducing sebum production.
