Acne is a common skin condition for people of all ages. It affects most people at some point in their lives.

The severity varies from person to person, from a few black/white heads to nodules and cysts and they can appear anywhere from your face, neck, back and chest.

Acne can have a huge impact on your self confidence and affect your day to day life but using the right products and under the care of the right practitioner the difference can be life changing.

There are many factors that can contribute towards acne and it’s not necessarily because of your diet:

  • Increased levels of hormones in both male and females during puberty, this causes the sebaceous glands to enlarge and produce more sebum.
  • If your parents both have had acne, it is likely that you will develop it too.
  • Excess oil production.
  • Hair follicles clogged by oil and dead skin.
  • Bacteria

One of the main causes is the oil producing gland (sebaceous). They are tiny glands found near the service of the skin. These glands are attached to hair follicles. The sebaceous gland lubricates the hair to stop the skin from drying out. This produces an oily substance called sebum.

In acne affected skin, the gland produces too much sebum, when this is mixed with dead skin cells it forms a plug in the follicle. This then causes either white or blackheads. We also have harmless bacteria on our skin too which can then contaminate and infect the blocked follicles causing papules, pustules, nodules or cysts.

If like our clinic coordinator who suffered from moderate acne when she was younger, she tried everything from over the counter (non-prescription) products to antibiotics and topical medication, yes the antibiotics did work but they are never a long term solution.

This is where ZO Skin Health is a life saver.

ZO Skin Health offers a complete range of products that have been expertly formulated to treat issues such as clogged pores, white and blackheads, papules, pustules, nodules and cysts.

Unlike most acne skincare, ZO Skin Health works from the inside out, activating and stimulating your skin’s cells to nourish, repair and maintain them.

The ZO Completion Clearing Programme is the perfect starter kit, it contains 4 amazing products designed to help and prevent acne and breakouts.

ZO Acne skincare product range

The Cleanser – Exfoliating Cleanser

Step 1 - The foundation of your skin regime. This is a gentle cleanser but really works hard to cleanse your face. It removes the skin of all dirt and surface oil, unclogs your pores with the exfoliating jojoba beads leaving your skin feeling clean and calm not stripped or dry. It targets excess oil, neutralises free radicals and boosts collagen production.

The Exfoliator – Exfoliating Polish

Step 2 –The skin polisher. This amazing polish exfoliates your dead skin cells to help create a clear, smooth and even skin toned complexion. It contains magnesium crystals and vitamins A, C and E all providing antioxidant protection. Helps exfoliate flaking and dry skin without being too harsh on your skin plus enhances the penetration of active ingredients.

The Toner – Complexion Renewal Pads

Step 3 – The game changer. These little pads will become your ‘best skin friend’. They are moistened pads that help remove any surface oil that you may have missed when you have cleansed and exfoliated.

They contain 2% Salicylic Acid which is a proven epidermal exfoliate and acts as an anti-inflammatory and includes a botanical extract blend which helps redness and soothes irritated skin. The BHA (Beta Hydroxy Acid) penetrates into the pores and breaks down the oil and dead skin that leads to black and whiteheads.

They also help exfoliate the top layer of your skin to improve acne scarring and blemishes.

The Mask – Sulphur Masque

Step 4 – The Final piece. This amazing masque is a natural clay-based formula that not only treats but prevents acne. It is a deep cleansing, anti-inflammatory and antibacterial product containing 10% sulphur, glycerine, Kaolin and bentonite.

The sulphur helps treat and prevent acne by reducing the amount of sebum in your skin and calms down irritated skin. The Kaolin and Bentonite helps purify pores and like the sulphur helps absorbs excess sebum to avoid white and blackheads. The Glycerine replenishes hydration back into the skin which can often be dry when using aggressive over the counter or prescription medication.

Like any new skin products, results will not happen overnight, choosing ZO Skin Health is a lifelong commitment. Dr Obagi famously says ‘many people mistakenly see the skin as a wall to paint or decorate, but not as a living organ to nurture and heal … Everyone needs to cleanse, exfoliate and tone no matter your skin type’. His philosophy is to create and maintain healthy skin for life.

As ZO Skin Health products are medical grade products, they are only available through accredited and fully trained practitioner.

At Eterno Aesthetics we offer the full range of ZO Skin Health and offer a thorough consultation and skin analysis to discuss all your skin needs and which ZO Skin Health would complement your skin conditions.
