Dermal Filler

Dermal filler is a non-invasive injectable treatment used to restore elasticity and volume across the face. As we age, our skin begins to lose its natural hydration, and this, combined with the effects of gravity, can lead to unwanted lines, wrinkles and sagging. Dermal fillers can be offered as an excellent alternative or addition to Botox®, rejuvenating the lips, chin, cheeks, jawline, temples, and hollowing under the eyes, with instantly visible results.

Why dermal fillers?

As we age, our skin starts to lose moisture (hyaluronic acid) and levels of collagen and elastin decline, meaning our complexion becomes drier, decreases in volume, and lines and wrinkles begin to appear.

These signs of ageing are most commonly noticed around the cheeks and chin, as the levels of subcutaneous fat in the face reduce and the skull bone begins to reabsorb, becoming thinner, which means that the skin appears to hang and sag.

The shape of the face changes from the “triangle of youth” to a rectangular and heavier shape, which is where dermal fillers can help to restore lost volume by boosting levels of hyaluronic acid when injected into the skin, creating a subtle, smooth and natural result.

Carefully placed dermal fillers replace volume where volume has been lost, and areas that can be treated include the cheeks, chin, jawline, under eyes, nose to mouth lines, mouth to chin, and above the lip. A consultation will be carried out at our Sheffield-based skin clinic pre-procedure, and a personal treatment plan will be advised to achieve your goals.

Often, a combination of Botox® and dermal filler can offer optimum results, as pictured in the before and after results below. Contact us to find out if you are a suitable patient for fillers.

All the dermal fillers used at Eterno Aesthetics are semi-long-lasting and made from hyaluronic acid, which breaks down and is absorbed into the skin after around 6 to 18 months.

Hyaluronic acid fillers such as Juvéderm can be quickly dissolved using an enzyme known as hyaluronidase. This acts to disperse hyaluronic acid, speeding up the natural breakdown of the dermal filler. The use of hyaluronidase to remove fillers is off-license, so we will only go ahead if it is in the best interest of the patient on the basis of available evidence.

Dermal fillers can be used most effectively and naturally to restore areas of facial volume loss that occurs as we age, which often contributes to the sagging skin and jowling. Strategic and skilful placement of filler can lift and support the face naturally with no need for a surgical procedure.

Dermal fillers can smooth fine lines on the forehead and the lower face. Moderate lines in the mouth-to-chin area and the nose-to-lip corners can be softened. Cheeks and chins can be remodelled and given more definition. Scars can be minimised, while lips can be defined or enhanced subtly and naturally. Skin boosters like Profhilo can be used in combination to increase hydration to the skin, particularly the face, neck, hands and décolletage.

Different fillers achieve different outcomes. At your initial 1:1 consultation, we’ll discuss a personalised treatment plan that’s tailored to you. It could be that you need one or more of these options:

  • Increase hydration to your face, neck, hands and décolletage.
  • Smooth fine lines on your forehead and the lower face.
  • Soften moderate lines in your mouth to the chin area and from your nose to your mouth.
  • Remodel your cheeks and chin, and give more definition.
  • Minimise scars.
  • Define or enhance lips, subtly and naturally.
  • Restore lost facial volume.
