What does Botox® do? Things you should know before considering Botox injections.

Botox® is an injectable cosmetic treatment that uses small doses of a prescribed medication called Botulinum Toxin to temporarily paralyse facial muscles. In turn, this can give your skin a smoother, more youthful appearance.

Botox® is one of the brands of Botulinum Toxins available, although there are other commonly used products, such as Azzalure, Boccouture and Nucevia. At Eterno Aesthetics, we typically use Botox®, though we may choose to try a better-suited treatment or combination of methods, such as Botox® and dermal filler, to achieve your desired results.

Botox® typically lasts up to 12 weeks, but this doesn’t mean that muscle deactivation will endure until the 12-week point.

Once Botox® has been injected, you should start to see a reduction in muscle movement after 3-5 days, with full effects visible from around 2 weeks. At this point, we’ll invite you back to the clinic for a review and top-up if required.

If the lines are deep to begin with, we call these ‘static lines’, which won’t disappear immediately, or sometimes not at all. Over time, however, and with a course of treatments, your skin softens during periods when your muscles are at rest, meaning Botox® can be a preventive method.

For best results, it is advisable to begin Botox® treatment before you notice static lines forming, as it can prevent you from developing deep wrinkles in the first place.

Muscle movement typically restores halfway through your treatment cycle, at around 6 weeks. You will gradually regain movement until your next Botox® treatment, around week 12. As your static lines start to soften, the treatment lasts longer, as your skin stays smoother for longer between visits.

There are a number of factors that can affect how long your Botox® lasts, and results vary from person to person. In the 48 hours after treatment, you mustn’t get too hot. Things like strenuous exercise, saunas, steam rooms, and a hot bath can prevent the Botox® from working as intended, and results may subsequently wear off faster.

Lifestyle choices such as sunbed use, smoking, and excessive alcohol consumption can also shorten the effects of Botox®, and daily skin care maintenance is essential.

Before any aesthetic treatment, a consultation is essential. This dedicated time allows for an in-depth conversation around your desired results, an assessment of your skin, and a tailored recommendation of the most suitable method for your skin type and lifestyle.

We require a deposit of £50 for all of our consultations. Your deposit can be refunded in the clinic or redeemed against our treatments/products purchased after the consultation.
